    Winbond focuses on the development of NOR flash that can store system control programs. Our products use key techniques to extend flash memory applications beyond PC-related fields to the areas of consumer electronics and communication, such as digital camera, DVD players and recorders, MP3 players, printers, set-top boxes (DVB-S,-T), mobile devices and more. Although NAND flash is currently the star product, NOR flash has the potential to become the next star. By 2011, Serial Flash, a NOR flash product, is expected to expand to 3 billion US dollars in the global market.

Competitive Advantage

Winbond Electronics is deeply involved in the Taiwanese NOR flash market, and is a market leader as the supplier to international companies. Winbond’s Low Density Serial and Parallel Flash retain their high market share in motherboard products. The Flash IC Business Group has two good reasons to be optimistic:

• Our first-rate capabilities in serial flash design enabled us to launch the most powerful serial flash memory (March, 2006). Winbond then introduced the industry's first QUAD-SPI serial Flash Memory that is cost-effective and can execute code, as an alternative to parallel NOR Flash (August, 2007). In addition, before the end of 2007, Winbond will launch the W19B family of 16 Mb, 32 Mb and 64 Mb parallel flash memories. These products enhance the speed of data retrieval and ensure the integrity of this product line.
• Our 12-inch wafer fab, in conjunction with our 8-inch fab, allows us the flexibility required to meet our clients' needs.

Winbond's Flash Memory IC Business Group has design centers with development capabilities in Jhubei Office (Taiwan) and Silicon Valley (USA).
